When the Evening Comes

March-1

When the evening comes, our house becomes a total mad house! The kind of house that seriously makes me want to cover my head with a blanket and pretend I am sleeping in my bed. Once it starts to get a little dark outside, Trevin transforms into this wild monster that I have the hardest time taming. It’s like his body tells him he must get out every last ounce of energy before his head hits the pillow.

Colby went and played basketball tonight with some guys in our ward. He doesn’t get to go hang out very often and so I was more than happy to let him leave me with the boys (actually I wanted him to stay with me instead).  I was running on about three hours of sleep over the last two days and I finally just gave in. Trevin got out every single toy he owned and brought it into the family room. I knew it was all going to have to be cleaned before bedtime, but at the moment I didn’t care. I wanted to lay on the couch and relax for just fifteen minutes. Is that too much to ask?

We eventually cleaned up all the toys and just as I was getting ready to put Easton to bed, Trevin came into his room and thought it would be a great idea to jump off the dresser. Needless to say, at that point Easton got his second wind and started giggling at Trevin’s every move. Trevin knew he was the entertainer and so it brought on the dance moves, the silly faces, and then our traditional “last one wrestling” before bed. Colby wasn’t home so I was the one wrestling them tonight. It was a little bittersweet not having him here. I usually get tackled to the floor by Colby and dog-piled as well. It was almost as if something wasn’t right. Something was missing. That something was my husband.

I pray our family will always be together. I pray that we will live the perfect life together and be able to wrestle every night no matter how old we get.

Recently I read about the loss of a father to a young family to cancer. I nearly cried through the entire blog for about three hours one day. I can’t imagine living my life without my best friend and the man I call my husband. Can you imagine how hard that would be? Although my days may be sleepless and I may have challenges with my children, I don’t have anything to be ungrateful for or upset about. My life can be crazy raising two kids, running my own photography business, working a part-time job as a nurse, and in between all the madness finding time to spend with Colby, but I love it! I really love it.

Someday when I am older and the evening comes, I am going to miss these moments of madness.

I know how you feel. Two little boys can make a house so crazy but it’s so worth it and just like you I know some day I will miss it.
