A New Year. A New Beginning.

2014 has already begun and yet I find myself still not really living like 2013 is over. I haven’t actually wrote down goals, hopes, or things I wish for the new year to bring. I haven’t deep cleaned my house like I normally do at the start of a new year or de-junked any drawers. I feel like I am still not ready for 2013 to be over with.

Last year was probably one of the best years of my life!

A little reminiscing of 2013….

One of the biggest blessings from last year was welcoming our third child Cohen into the world! He brings so much joy to our family and is the best behaved child! He sleeps through the night, hardly ever cries, and his laugh could move mountains! He absolutely hates rice cereal and every other form of food other than baby formula and loves it when Trevin & Easton talk to him. He is just over 6 months old and still can’t roll over. He managed to get the swine flu a few weeks ago, but never acted sick a single day he had it. He loves splashing his feet in the tub and riding in the car. He is such a blessing in our life!

We were able to go to Disneyland in September as a family and the boys had such a blast! We spent three days in Disneyland and spent another day just swimming in the pool at the hotel. Kloie and Diane also came along with us! Trevin got to ride Splash Mountain, Indiana Jones, and Space Mountain for the first time. He says his favorite ride is Space Mountain! Easton still asks to go on Pirates of the Caribbean but looks scared to death every time we get off the ride. We still rode Trevin’s first favorite ride, Casey Jr. The boys can’t wait to go back sometime soon!

We had just recently bought a new home in Nephi and with Colby’s hard work and my design ideas, we have started to turn it into “our home” with “our style.” I have loved living in this home with my family and I truly feel like we are finally “home.” Moving back to Nephi a few years ago was probably one of the best decisions we have ever made (yet one of the most expensive). We love living so close to our families and my kids have really enjoyed being close to their grandparents and cousins. Family really is everything to us.

Colby is still currently running his own business as well as working as a Real Estate Agent. He stays extremely busy but works so hard to support our family! He is ONE credit away from receiving his Bachelor Degree and I can’t wait to have it finally completed. Just one month ago we celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary! Colby currently serves as the Varsity Scout Coach in our ward and enjoys being around the Young Men of our ward. He went on a camping/hunting trip with all his brothers down south in October and had the time of his life doing that. He continues to enjoy spending time with his brothers and considers them his best friends.

I am currently still working one day a week (if that) up at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in the ICU. I basically work to keep my nursing license and stay up to date on my skills. I love it!  I love being home with my kids and I am grateful I have a husband that supports our family and allows me to be at home with my kids almost every single day. Some days are harder than others, but I wouldn’t change it for the world! Whenever I have a little extra time (and sometimes even when I don’t) I love to craft and scrapbook. Documenting our life and decorating our home are some of my favorite things to do!

Trevin started Kindergarten this year and he really loves it! He has been ready to go to Kindergarten for a while now and he has made so many friends. His teacher is Mrs. Painter and he really enjoys her. He is one of the smartest kids in his class and seems to get along pretty well with all of his classmates. Some of his his best friends are Jack Petersen and Carson Nielsen.

We got a BMW

After much debate, we decided to sell our Yukon Denali and go for a BMW instead. I know most of you are probably thinking “that’s not a BMW” but in our eyes, it’s totally a BMW. We call her the “Big Mormon Wagon.” She will save us money on gas, save our arms from lifting heavy car seats so high into the car, give us more room, provide two quality TV screens for long trips, and warm our behinds when it’s cold outside.

Three instead of Two

Tonight I was blessed to be able to bathe, clothe, and tuck three little boys into bed instead of two. I turned down their beds, gathered their pajamas, and found their blankets….

Trevin and Easton were beyond excited to help me with Cohen’s bath. Trevin gathered the soap, washcloth, and the soft brush while Easton picked out his pajamas. With four extra hands helping me bathe Cohen, it seemed a little stressful, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I could see the excitement on the boys’ face being able to help as well as finally have their brother home.

By the end of the bath, Easton was really tired and drifted off to sleep on the couch. Colby took him to bed and tucked him in for the night. Trevin explained that he needed to sleep in our room so that he could help Cohen if he woke up in the night. After talking to Trevin for about twenty minutes, I realized I wasn’t going to be able to convince him to sleep in his own bed. He said,  “Mom. You need your sleep too. I will wake up with Cohen so you can sleep in the night.” My heart melted. We laid some blankets on our bed and let him drift off to sleep there. He is bound and determined to be the best brother in the world!

On a more personal note, tonight I couldn’t be more grateful and thankful to my Heavenly Father for blessing me with three beautiful healthy little boys. After seeing some family members go through some very hard times trying to have children of their own, I know I am extremely blessed to have the children I have and to be trusted in raising them/teaching them the way my Heavenly Father would want me to. They say three children is a HUGE challenge, yet I am excited for the challenges we will face. As far as tonight goes, life is wonderful, and I am extremely blessed with three instead of two!

It’s Almost Summer

For the last few weeks, we have been working in the yard! Colby put together a playground set for the boys and now we have started building our garden! The boys have loved helping their Dad in the yard and getting to finally play outside! It’s getting warmer and warmer outside and we can’t wait for summer to come! Easton loved helping Colby shovel and scoop the dirt into the bucket. And he didn’t do anything without his Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Garden Gloves! The boys also enjoyed cutting the dandelions with scissors and blowing the seeds across the yard.
And this is me, 31 weeks pregnant with little man number three. I worked hard in the yard as well planting numerous flower pots and sanding an old patio table that was given to me from my Grandma Giacomo. Needless to say, I was feeling pretty worn out by the end of the day!

The Life of Raising Boys

My mom called this morning and asked how the boys were. I responded by explaining they were doing fine, but were just being wild. I didn’t really have a better response for her. She went on to explain how good they were for her while I was at work yesterday for the few hours she watched them.

We talked for a second longer about the plans for this weekend and a few other things. As I hung up the phone, I sat at the kitchen table watching my two boys eat their Mac & Cheese they had requested for lunch. Neither one of them was too interested in eating (as usual) and so I encouraged them to eat. A few more bites from each of them and that was it. Both of them left their plates 3/4 full of food and ran off to their room. They were too eager to go play trains, pirates, or whatever else their little minds could imagine.

……flash back to Saturday night…….

Trevin and Easton had piled every single blanket, pillow, stuffed animal, and any soft toy they could find at the bottom of the stairs. My linen closet was left completely empty, their beds bare, and the couches without pillows. Trevin explained to Easton the door that lead to the basement needed to stay closed at all times so the pile would stay full. At first it was just a place for the two of them to lay on and then a few minutes later, it turned into much more than just a quiet place to play.

Trevin sat on about the fourth step from the top of the stairs thinking to himself. It wasn’t thirty seconds later he said to Easton, “I know what we should call it…The Water Hole!” I was confused by the name at first and then realized they had been watching their new favorite movie The Smurfs all day long (the Water Hole came from the movie and the Smurfs jump in the magic Water Hole in order to transport to different worlds). Trevin stands up and immediately jumps in the air, does a karate move, and lands in the pile of softness at the bottom of the stairs.

My heart almost jumped out of my chest as I ran to see if he was ok! He laid at the bottom of the stairs laughing and said, “Did you see that Mom?”

Eventually Easton got brave and started jumping into The Water Hole himself!

The night was full of twists, tricks, giggles, and fun for my two boys. I decided to let them play and enjoy the moment hoping they wouldn’t hit their head or miss the blankets completely. They enjoyed showing me their tricks and free falling into The Water Hole like the little Smurfs do on the movie. As a mother, this was one of those moments when the life of raising two little boys can be wild! My anxiety was building as I thought more and more about their safety.

Eventually I made them pick up The Water Hole and was actually very mad at how many blankets and towels I had to refold, beds that had to be remade, and pillows that had to be replaced. I couldn’t believe the amount of “stuff” that was at the bottom of the stairs. I got upset and went into my room. I sat there thinking to myself about my life and my family. I came to the realization that this is how my life is going to be and that I needed to embrace it with happiness no matter how wild it may get. My boys are my life and this is what boys do. They wrestle, fight (and get over it), tackle each other, burp, pee on the toilet (and leave the seat up), and make messes that drive me mad. However, they make me laugh, tell me they love me constantly, they enjoy the small things life has to offer, and love each other as well. They are the reason I get up every morning.

They are my life! And one things for sure…..I really do love the life of raising two little boys!

(Please disregard the grainy, blurry pictures. Lighting was terrible, kids jumping and moving everywhere, and I was too lazy to get out my flash)
